News You Can Use: CONGRESSIONAL RATINGS PLUMMET
Gallup's 2010 Confidence in Institutions poll finds Congress ranking dead last out of the 16 institutions rated this year. Eleven percent of Americans say they have "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in Congress, down from 17% in 2009. The Gallup poll was conducted July 8-11, shortly before Congress passed a major financial regulatory reform bill, which President Obama signed into law this week.
We have just one question.

News You Can Use: DO YOU HAVE BRAGGING RIGHTS?
Come And Get It
Americans can be a proud bunch, especially when it comes to boasting about their community or state. Other areas of the country may have something special but by God, they don't have what we have.
We lead the nation in organic farming.
We lead the nation in energy efficency.
We lead the nation in the production of sweet potatoes.
Every state leads the nation in some category so we all have bragging rights about something ... But one thing we don't boast about is the amount of money our state rings up in pork-barrel spending. Nope, that one we sweep under the carpet and hope no one notices.
Or maybe you don't know how much your senators and congressmen are costing U.S. taxpayers. Here's your chance to find out.

Okay, Maybe He Didn't Make It Up
But He Likes To Embellish It ... A Lot
There are many kinds of truth. Al Gore was embarrassed by an inconvenient one yesterday.
The former US Vice-President, who became an unlikely figurehead for the green movement after narrating the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, became entangled in a new climate change "spin" disaster.

News You Can Use: "THE MUSIC THAT WILL NEVER DIE"
Big Bob May Be On Vacation But
The Music Never Stops On Memory Lane
Big Bob's Memory Lane is one of our favorite programs – and based on how many times you listen to it each week, it's also one of yours – so even though he's taking a very well-deserved week off, we're happy to say the music keeps right on playing.
We're running an encore presentation of a Big Bob Special Event; "The Super Sounds of 66," a (pardon the pun) memory-filled three hours featuring forty-six songs – including eighteen #1 hits – from one of the most incredible years in rock & roll history, and all of it delivered by the offical tour guide of Memory Lane. After all, who knows more about memories than Big Bob?
"Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends
We're so glad you could attend
Come inside! Come inside!"

News You Can Use: WHO WILL BE THERE TO SPEAK FOR YOU?
Americans born after Dec. 1, 1964, will have to get more secure driver's licenses in the next six years under ambitious post-9/11 security rules to be unveiled Friday by federal officials.
The Homeland Security Department has spent years crafting the final regulations for the REAL ID Act, a law designed to make it harder for terrorists, illegal immigrants and con artists to get government-issued identification. The effort once envisioned to take effect in 2008 has been pushed back in the hopes of winning over skeptical state officials.
To address some of those concerns, the government now plans to phase in a secure ID initiative that Congress passed into law in 2005. Now, DHS plans a key deadline in 2011, and then further measures to be enacted three years later, according to congressional staffers.
