What Happened To?: MURRAY WILSON'S POISON PEN LETTER
He Was Never A 'Father of The Year' Candidate
As an eight-year-old, Brian Wilson says his "young life was already being shaped and influenced by music. None affected me more than the music I heard when my father played the family piano. I watched how his fingers made chords and memorized the positions."
Murry Wilson had limited success as a songwriter, peaking with Two Step Side Step when it was recorded for a Bachelors album in 1952. Despite his musical ability and any wish to educate Brian in particular, Murry "was a tyrant," quick to offer discouraging criticism and who "abused [his sons] psychologically and physically, creating wounds that never healed." Carl found comfort in food and Dennis rebelled against the world to express his anger. Brian would immerse himself in music to cope, but though he longed to learn piano as a child, he was too frightened to ask and even too scared to press the keys when his father was at work.
Brian had no idea what was coming.

What Happened To?: FORTY YEARS LATER...A CAMPUS UNDER FIRE
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it George Santayana
It took half a century to transform Kent State from an obscure teachers college into the second largest university in Ohio, with 21,000 students and an impressive array of modern buildings on its main campus. But it took only thirteen seconds to convert the traditionally conformist campus into a bloodstained symbol of the rising student rebellion against the Nixon Administration and the war in Southeast Asia.
"Thirteen seconds of gunfire at a relatively unknown campus in northeastern Ohio ended the lives of four young people, and permanently altered the lives of countless others. The victims' families, injured survivors, guardsmen, eyewitnesses, and politicians were immediately and directly affected. Many Americans who were shocked by the shootings began to see domestic turmoil in a different light. Our society, deeply divided before the Kent State incident, was in its aftermath completely polarized."
J. Gregory Payne, Ph.D."You know, you see these bums, you know, blowin' up the campuses. Listen, the boys that are on the college campuses today are the luckiest people in the world, going to the greatest universities, and here they are, burnin' up the books, I mean, stormin' around about this issue, I mean, you name it - get rid of the war, there'll be another one." Richard Nixon, New York Times, May 2, 1970

What Happened To?: IT ONLY TOOK FORTY YEARS
The Rascals Reunite
Other than the night The Rascals were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1997, all four members of the band had not played together since 1970. Felix Cavaliere, Eddie Brigati, Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli had gone their separate ways after a testy split and had consistently rejected any and all offers to reunite. That all changed Saturday night when they performed at Robert De Niro's Tribeca Grill in Manhattan. So what did it take to finally put the quartet back onstage?

What Happened To?: WHEN MUSIC TURNED TO SEX
This Show Changed EVERYTHING
When did rock & roll music lose its innocence? Noted sex therapist Marty Klein says he can pinpoint when it happened. He says it didn't slowly transpire over a period of a few months. He says it clearly happened on a specific date.

What Happened To?: ROCK & ROLL RADIO'S GREAT VOICES
When Radio Was F-U-N!!!
The recent passing of radio legend Ron Lundy served as a reminder to me that there really was a time when rock & roll radio was a blast. In today's world of cookie-cutter radio, filled with faceless voices and mindless blather, it is easy to forget the magic we heard coming out of transistor radios and car radios.
By the way, those handsome faces above are a select few of the voices I (and many of you) grew up with. Beginning in the upper left and going clockwise are the late Scott 'Scottso' Muni, the late Alan Freed, the seemingly immortal 'Cousin Brucie' Morrow and Ron Lundy.
Take a peek inside and listen to a great montage of airchecks from New York City radio stations in the 50's and 60's, assembled by radio veteran Peter Mokover. Listen to the voices we are missing today.

What Happened To?: J EDGAR HOOVER'S NIGHTMARE
We've all been there. You're at a party, a bit liquored-up and dancing like a loon. Then Louie Louie starts to play and suddenly you're one of the Kingsmen. You're howling the lyrics when, during the third verse, you realize that you don't even KNOW the lyrics!!
THE MOST DANGEROUS MEN IN AMERICA
It may be hard to believe but J. Edgar Hoover once found himself in a similar predicament. The FBI boss and his troops investigated whether the song's lyrics violated federal obscenity laws. Triggered by complaints from parents who sent the FBI copies of the supposed Louie Louie lyrics Hoover's agents put aside their war on corruption and struggled to solve something really important. They were determined to discover just what it was the Kingsmen were singing. But alas, even when they slowed the 45-rpm single down to 33-1/3, the agents remained stymied. Yes, this was one case Hoover's boys couldn't crack.

What Happened To?: COINCIDENCES? YOU DECIDE
Where do curses begin? Who starts them and do they ever have an end? If you're a Chicago Cubs fan, you are very familiar with the Curse of the Billy Goat, which was supposedly placed on the Cubs in 1945 when Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis was asked to leave a World Series game at the Cubs' home ground of Wrigley Field because his pet goat's odor was bothering other fans. He was outraged and declared, "Them Cubs, they aren't gonna win no more."
Forget the fact the Cubbies hadn't won a World Series since 1908, which many fans still blame on the dreaded Curse of Fred Merkle but baseball curses, such as those two and the Curse of The Bambino, which the Red Sox finally ended in 2004, are not the focus of this article.
THE BUDDY HOLLY CURSE
This is about a rock & roll curse that started in 1959 and continues to this very day. It seems the music didn't actually die on February 3, 1959. It couldn't have because so many people connected in even the smallest way with Buddy Holly musicians, producers and screenwriters pass away, some of them in the most bizarre and tragic fashion.

What Happened To?: LONG, LONG TIME AGO
The Winter Dance Party was a tour designed to cover 24 Midwestern cities in three weeks. A logistical nightmare from the start was the amount of travel, as the distance between venues was not a priority when scheduling each performance. For example, the tour would start at venue A, travel two hundred miles to venue B, and travel back one hundred seventy miles to venue C, which was only thirty miles from venue A.
The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa was never intended to be a stop on the tour, but promoters, hoping to fill an open date, called the manager of the ballroom and offered him the show. He accepted and the date of the show was set for February 2.

What Happened To?: BADFINGER: ROCK & ROLL VICTIMS
They were the prototype power-pop quartet for the 70s, often labeled as the next Beatles. Doted on by Paul McCartney and George Harrison, they reached worldwide audiences with hits like the McCartney-written Come And Get It. They proved they could succeed with their own compositions, such as No Matter What,Day After Day and Baby Blue, all top 40 hits.
The Story of Badfinger
They may also have been the most abused and mismanaged act in recording history. Even though they were an international smash, the people they trusted deceived them at every turn, leaving them broke, disillusioned, and in the case of two members, depressed to the point of taking their own lives.

What Happened To?: THE SWEETEST SOUND YOU EVER HEARD
So you always wanted to be in a rock & roll band, but you could never quite master the guitar and the bass was just too heavy to lift all night. You didn't think your fingers were nimble enough for the piano and although you had a great sense of timing, that darn backbeat of the drums always left you flailing away and out of step.
What then, in the words of Mick Jagger, "can a poor boy do except to sing for a rock n roll band?" Ah, but you couldn't hold a note if it was gift wrapped for you.
Fear not! There is still hope for any of you who believe you can play that one instrument that doesn't require the ability to play a 4-minute guitar solo or a drawn out keyboard bridge.
Are you ready?
Do you think you can handle a cowbell?

What Happened To?: A TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN
Today, it doesn't matter which side of the theories behind the September 11, 2001 attacks you are on. It doesn't matter how you feel about the war in Iraq how and why it started. It doesn't matter how you felt about President George Bush. It doesn't matter how you feel about President Barack Obama
What does matter today are the lost and innocent souls who were taken from their loved ones eight years ago today. Conspiracy theories have sprung up on countless web sites and political gamesmanship has been in abundance but in the process of passing out blame, one inescapable result has been far too many of us have failed to remember the horror of having families torn apart. There was no chance for goodbyes. There was no chance to say, "I love you" one last time. There was barely enough time to whisper a final prayer.
On that fateful day, Americans swore they would never forget but in the rush to judgment, we have. We have forgotten those lives which were lost; forgotten the images of helpless victims jumping from buildings, forgotten the bravery of thousands of firemen, rescue personnel and average citizens who stepped in to do whatever they could.
If you can watch this incredibly moving clip put together by Steve Golding and not shed a tear, you're a better person than me. We offer it in memory of the thousands who were lost because We Will Never Forget.

What Happened To?: Oh, So THAT'S What He Sang!!
One of the highlights of Woodstock '69 was Joe Cocker's electrifying version of With A Little Help From My Friends. Already an established recording artist in England, Cocker was a rising star in the U.S. in August 1969. But following his frenzied performance at the Woodstock concert, he became an international sensation.
You've probably seen the video countless number of times, but if you take a look inside, you will for the first time finally discover what he actually sang that day.
