Rock Factoids: A ROCK & ROLL FACTOID EXTRAVAGANZA
WANT TO IMPRESS YOUR FRIENDS?
Be the hit of the party or at the very least be the star during coffee breaks with your knowledge of rock & roll trivia. Of course, buying your friends a muffin might impress them more but this is cheaper.

Rock Factoids: You Can't Always Get What You Want
"You Can't Always Get What You Want" was recorded on November 16 and November 17, 1968 at London's Olympic Sound Studios. It features the London Bach Choir powerfully opening the song, highlighting throughout, and bringing it to an uproarious conclusion. Jimmy Miller, the Rolling Stones' producer at the time, plays drums on this song instead of Charlie Watts. Al Kooper plays piano, organ and French horn while Rocky Dijon plays congas and maracas. Nanette Workman sings backup vocals, but she is credited as "Nanette Newman".
I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection,
At her feet was her foot-loose man.
You can't always get what you want
you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime
You might find you get what you need!
I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing, "We gonna vent our frustration"
If we don't we’re gonna blow a fifty amp fuse
You can't always get what you want
Honey, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime
You just might find you get what you need!
I went down to the Chelsea Drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mister Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mister Jimmy
And he said one word to me and that was "dead"
I said to him, You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime
You just might find you get what you need!
I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well, I could tell by her blood-stained hands
And you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime
You just might find you get what you need!
You can' always get what you want, no no, baby
You can't always get what you want
You cant always get what you want
But if you try sometime, yeah
You just might find you get what you need!

Rock Factoids: I WOKE UP WITH FACTOIDS ON MY MIND
A Factoid Blast From The Past
It has been a long, long time since we posted a dose of Rock Factoids on their own.
Sure, there are lots of them every week in the This Week In Rock & Roll History column, but since I woke up at 3:00 this morning with nothing else to do, I thought I'd throw a few together.

Rock Factoids: I'M THANKFUL FOR ANDI B!
The holidays are here and I feel very, very guilty.
It has been far too long since I put together a list of Andi B Rock Factoids.
Oh sure, I include factoids in the This Week In Music History article each week, but damn, Andi B deserves a list dedicated to just her.
After all, she's the one who came up with the idea of Rock Factoids to begin with...Something about a place to unload all the clutter in my head.
I still think she meant it as a compliment :)
So, Mrs. B, here you (and anyone else who wants to impress their friends with their vast musical knowledge) go!

Rock Factoids: THE VENTURES HAVE FACTOIDS TOO!
Everyone, and I mean everyone has heard a Ventures song in their lifetime. Best remembered for Walk—Don’t Run, their repertoire goes far beyond that one song.
In fact, there may be a few things you don’t know about this immortal band, including the amazing item at the end of the list on the inside.

Rock Factoids: WHAT SONG WAS #1 THE WEEK YOU GRADUATED?
One thing we all have in common, regardless of the year we graduated or the school we attended, is the memory of the great music we grew up with.
And while I’m sure we all think “our” music was the best, here’s a chance for everyone to look back and see the song that was #1 on the Billboard charts the week you graduated, beginning with 1955, the year Billboard published The Top 100 for the first time.
Take a look. I hope it conjures up some wonderful memories.

Rock Factoids: THE TOP 10 MYTHS IN ROCK & ROLL
Rock & roll has been the subject of many tales of excess, whether it be alcohol or drug abuse.
And while many of those tales have been validated, many other longstanding rock myths turned out to be stories often created by the artists themselves—Publicity at any cost.
And then there are the myths that just won’t go away, no matter how bizarre, no matter how many times they have been proven to be baseless.
What are the Top 10 Myths in Rock—the stories that continue to circulate, even 40 years after they supposedly happened (and have been subsequently disproved)?

Rock Factoids: THE 50'S...A MUSICAL TIMELINE
If you grew up with the music from the fifties and sixties, you might think you understand the progression from rhythm & blues to doo-wop, from car songs to the British Invasion, and from protest folk songs to flower power.
But do you really understand where all the music came from?
To do that, you have to go all the way back to...are you ready?...1877. That's where everything we are as fans of rock & roll music really started. And the journey was nothing short of incredible.
